Bots, bots and more bots. This applies to adding bots from the game server only. If you are running a non dedicated game (a normal game) it's best to use the 'in game' menu ('Esc' key if you're already playing a game) to add/remove bots. If you're using some of the 'custom' bots and models you've downloaded there are often problems when typing commands into the game console, the files aren't recognised and don't initialise properly.
Adding bots is pretty straight forward, you do need to know the name(s) of the bots you're wanting to add - if you don't know how to do this, next time you start q3 set a 'skirmish' game up, when you get the page that shows player slots (players to be included in the game from the start) click a 'bot slot' (the bit of text saying 'bot .. major' etc.) to see which models came with bot support. All the thumbnails shown on these page are OK to use as bots (the bot files have been included with the md3 model / skin 'pk3' you downloaded).
Make a note of the names of the bots you want to add. All you then need do is type this command:
addbot [botname]
and press return/enter.
The server will just add the bot without you needing to do anything else. If you want to add more, just do the same thing again.
To remove a bot, you actually 'kick' it from the game. Each time a bot or player enters a game, the server assigns a number to it (it does this invisibly mind..), it's this number you use to kick a bot/player. To find it out type;
status
and press return/enter.
The console will then show you a list of current bots/players in the game, to the left hand side of each players name will be the number, it will look something like this;
0 major
1 unnamed player
2 hot pants
3 sarge
4 visor
5 lucy
6 yuriko
make a note of a number (and bot/player), you may have to be quick as the console screen will scroll upwards as more information is displayed about the game that's playing.
The server will just add the bot without you needing to do anything else. If you want to add more, just do the same thing again. Once you've got the number for the first player to 'kick' type:
kick x ('x' = one of the numbers)
That bot/player will be kicked. If you want to remove more bots/players do the procedure again, 'status.....'
Note: you can only remove one bot/player at a time
